"Health Insurance Drug Cost Subsidy... Also Checkable on 'Government24'"
The National Health Insurance Service announced on the 10th that it has expanded the guidance channels on Government24 (Bojo-geum24) to make it easier for citizens to apply for drug cost subsidies. The drug cost subsidy system is a program that supports a portion of the out-of-pocket drug expenses for patients with severe illnesses, such as those receiving certain anticancer drugs and new drugs for rare diseases.
Currently, the Service sends guidance letters to eligible recipients by mail or electronic documents and accepts applications via phone, fax (text message), mail, in-person visits, and online, then pays the subsidy to the designated bank account. Through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Government24 site’s ‘Personalized Service,’ individuals can easily check their eligibility for the subsidy and apply.
Jung Hae-min, Director of the Drug Management Office at the Service, stated, "As part of our efforts to improve treatment accessibility for patients with severe and rare diseases, the number of newly supported drugs increases every year, leading to a rise in eligible recipients for drug cost subsidies. We expect that by expanding guidance channels and providing timely support for drug costs, we can contribute to reducing medical expenses for vulnerable groups with severe illnesses."
