Jangheung-gun Signs Agreement to Host 'Presidential Ssireum Championship'

Jangheung County and the Korea Ssireum Association have signed an agreement to host the Presidential Cup National Ssireum Championship from 2023 to 2025.

The signing ceremony held on the 7th at the Jangheung County Office Situation Room was attended by County Governor Kim Seong, Korea Ssireum Association President Hwang Kyung-su, Jangheung County Council Chairman Wang Yoon-chae, Jangheung County Sports Council President Jeong Seong-in, and County Ssireum Association President Kim Cheon-hwan, among others.
Jangheung County plans to promote "Mother's Embrace Jangheung" nationwide and contribute to the development of traditional ssireum through hosting the Presidential Cup National Ssireum Championship.
The 2023 Presidential Cup National Ssireum Championship will be held for seven days from July 3 to 9 at the Jangheung Indoor Gymnasium.
A total of about 1,200 participants, including athletes and officials, are expected to compete in six divisions: elementary, middle, high school, university, women, and men's general divisions.

Governor Kim Seong said, "I am very pleased that Jangheung County will host the largest ssireum competition in the nation," adding, "We will do our best to prepare the event so that Jeongnamjin Jangheung is promoted nationwide through national broadcasts and it becomes a good opportunity to improve the income of local residents."
