11 Policy Support Officers, 2 Budget and Settlement Analysis Specialists
Chairman Kim Jin-bu of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council presented appointment letters to 13 newly appointed fixed-term public officials, including 11 policy support officers, on the 6th in the council meeting room to strengthen legislative policy support.
The policy support officers appointed on this day are the second-year additional personnel following the revision of the Local Autonomy Act. After hiring 14 last year, 11 out of 18 scheduled for appointment this year were hired. The remaining 7 will be additionally appointed by April to fill all 32 positions, which is half of the total number of council members.
The newly appointed policy support officers will mostly be assigned to the expert committee offices, supporting the overall legislative activities of the council members, including the enactment and revision of ordinances, budget and settlement reviews, collection, investigation, and analysis of various data, and support for administrative audits and investigations.

View original imageAdditionally, the fixed-term public officials appointed on the same day in the budget and settlement analysis field belong to the budget analysis division of the legislative affairs office. They perform tasks such as analyzing the budget and settlement of the province and the provincial office of education, planning and policy analysis, and reviewing improvements to finance-related systems.
Following the appointment letter ceremony, a meeting was held between Chairman Shin Jong-chul of the Council Operations Committee and the newly appointed officials to facilitate smooth communication with council members and provide tailored legislative support. Customized in-house job training was also conducted to help policy support officers adapt systematically and quickly to their duties.
The training curriculum consisted of subjects designed to enhance the understanding and capabilities of newly appointed policy support officers regarding local councils, including ▲ legislative and policy support ▲ overall council operation ▲ budget analysis and settlement review methods ▲ publicity and press release writing ▲ and the transfer of know-how from senior policy support officers.

Chairman Kim said, “The recruitment of policy support officers with expertise through the revision of the Local Autonomy Act will further strengthen the policy capabilities of the provincial council.” He added, “I hope that by working closely with the council members and supporting legislative activities with policy expertise and diversity, the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council can be reborn as a council worthy of its name.”
