An Octogenarian Who Attempted Self-Immolation Dies During Treatment
An elderly person in their 80s who suffered severe burns over their entire body after attempting self-immolation passed away on the 2nd.
According to the Mapo Police Station in Seoul on the 5th, an 80-year-old woman, Ms. A, who attempted self-immolation in an officetel in Dohwa-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul in the early morning of the 28th of last month and was transferred to the hospital with second- and third-degree burns over her entire body, ultimately died on the 2nd.
Ms. A attempted self-immolation by pouring a flammable substance on herself inside her home, but the fire was extinguished after the sprinkler system activated, and she was receiving treatment at the hospital. It is known that Ms. A had been living alone since her cohabiting partner passed away in April of last year.
