Busan City Selected as '2023 Night Tourism Specialized City' in Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Contest
A Total Project Cost of 5.6 Billion KRW Including National Funds by 2026
Projects in Yongdusan, Suyeonggang, Dadaepo, Seomyeon, and Songjeong
Good Night+ BUSAN, My Own Night Story
Busan City has been selected in the ‘2023 Night Tourism Specialized City’ international landmark category, a project sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, securing 2.8 billion KRW in national funding over four years.
The Night Tourism Specialized City project aims to activate tourism content and products by connecting existing nightscape landmarks with tourism resources and stories, attracting tourists during nighttime hours to foster new growth engines in tourism such as extended stays.
This competition was divided into two categories: ‘International Landmark Type’ to grow into a world-class night tourism attraction city, and ‘Growth Support Type’ to create new city brands with differentiated regional content.
A total of 48 local governments applied, undergoing a first round of document screening and a second round of on-site presentations. Amid fierce competition, Busan and Daejeon were selected for the ‘International Landmark Type,’ while Gangneung, Jeonju, and Jinju were chosen for the ‘Growth Support Type.’
Busan City introduced ‘Good Night+ BUSAN’ under the concept of completing one’s own night story in the starlit sea, downtown, and forest.
Reflecting Busan’s geographical characteristics oriented toward the three ports and the ultra-personalized, nano-travel trends, it aims to create a unique +(plus) night culture in Busan through diverse night stories created by tourists themselves.
Following the project selection, the city plans to invest 2.6 billion KRW in national funds and up to 5.6 billion KRW in total project costs by 2026, designating Yongdusan Park and the Suyeong River area as the core zones, and connecting Dadaepo, Seomyeon, and Songjeong as linked zones to develop various contents.
Additionally, over the next two months, customized consulting will be conducted by domestic and international expert advisory panels selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. Detailed development plans and annual project implementation schedules will be finalized through this consulting.
