Jeon Seung-il, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, is gaining attention for prioritizing the welfare improvement of socially vulnerable groups as his primary legislative goal.

On the 24th, in an interview with the Developmentally Disabled Press Corps of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Disabled Welfare Center, Councilor Jeon stated, “The construction of the new Disabled Welfare Center, which has reached its limits in terms of safety and convenience after more than 40 years since it was built, is planned to be completed by November 2025. As the chairman of the relevant standing committee, I will fulfill my duties to ensure this schedule is met.”

He also conveyed a message of hope to people with disabilities, saying, “None of us are free from disability in our daily lives; the only difference is whether it is visible or not, or whether one has physical discomfort or not.” He added, “I will strive to provide systematic and professional welfare services such as treatment, rehabilitation, and education for people with disabilities in the district.”

A representative A from the Disabled Welfare Center, who listened to the interview, said, “I understand that Councilor Jeon made efforts to purchase land for a parking lot to alleviate the severe parking shortage at the Seo-gu Disabled Welfare Center during his 8th term legislative activities.” He expressed gratitude on behalf of users and guardians, saying, “We thank Councilor Jeon Seung-il for taking the lead in resolving these difficulties.”

Meanwhile, on the 17th, at the ‘19th Excellent Ordinance of Local Councils’ evaluation hosted by the Korean Local Autonomy Association, Councilor Jeon received the individual excellence award for the nationwide first enactment of the 'Seo-gu Ordinance on Shared Use of Vehicles Equipped with Wheelchair Boarding Facilities for Mobility-Impaired Elderly.' This ordinance was recognized for guaranteeing the mobility and leisure rights of transportation-vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities.

Councilor Jeon expressed his award acceptance remarks, saying, “I will continue to take the lead in improving the welfare of socially vulnerable groups, especially people with disabilities.”
