Gyeongnam Police Agency Cracks Down on Large Truck Pedestrian Threatening Behavior
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency is conducting an intensive crackdown on violations by large freight vehicles from the 25th of this month until March 31st.
According to the provincial police agency, the provincial undercover patrol team, police motorcycle patrol team, and traffic external duty teams from each police station are focusing their enforcement efforts on violations such as large freight vehicles cutting in and pedestrian protection violations around large construction sites and city roads.
The BeST one-team of the provincial police agency will collaborate with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to hold a meeting on reducing accidents involving commercial vehicles at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority on the 28th.
Each police station will also conduct promotional activities, including visiting large construction companies in their jurisdiction to urge compliance with traffic regulations.
The provincial police agency stated that the number of freight vehicle accidents has not decreased over the past three years, with 64 in 2020, 59 in 2021, and 61 in 2022.
In 2023, among the 32 traffic accident fatalities so far, 8 (25%) were freight vehicle drivers, with most accidents occurring between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., the agency added.
It was reported that this year, in Yangsan and Namhae, a dump truck turning at an intersection failed to notice an elderly pedestrian crossing the crosswalk and struck them.
