Goal to Establish a Sustainable Development System Together with Citizens
On the 27th at 4 p.m., Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam launched the ‘Changwon Sustainable Development Committee’ at the Citizen Hall to create a sustainable urban environment that balances environment, economy, and society.
The Sustainable Development Committee is a deliberative, decision-making, and advisory body established to efficiently promote Changwon’s sustainable development based on the ‘Framework Act on Sustainable Development’ enacted in January 2022 and the ‘Changwon Sustainable Development Basic Ordinance’ enacted in December of the same year. It aims to realize sustainable economic growth through balance and harmony among economy, society, and environment, an inclusive society, and overcoming climate and environmental crises.

View original imageThe Changwon Sustainable Development Committee is a public-private governance body for improving citizens’ quality of life and establishing and implementing sustainable development goals. It consists of 30 members, including the ex officio Second Vice Mayor, city council members, university professors, company representatives, and civic group activists.
The committee members are responsible for establishing and revising basic strategies and implementation plans for sustainable development, reviewing sustainability in mid- to long-term administrative plans, and providing policy opinions related to sustainable development.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “Sustainable development is our responsibility and opportunity,” adding, “We must respond proactively and actively rather than passively, to find new growth engines and opportunities.”
