Seoul Science Park "From Dementia Prediction to Non-Drug Treatment Experience"
Improving Awareness of Dementia Through Expert Lectures
The Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum announced on the 28th that it will hold the ‘Gwamanchi’ (Meeting Dementia at the Science Museum) program for the general adult public from the 17th to the 31st of next month to enhance citizens' understanding of dementia, the biggest issue in the aging era, through scientific and technological approaches.
This program is designed to invite experts in the field of dementia to improve public awareness of dementia and provide opportunities to experience the latest scientific technologies (such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality) for dementia prevention and treatment.
First, from March 17 to March 31, lectures by experts in dementia-related fields such as neuroscience, medical artificial intelligence, and occupational therapy will be held every Friday. Through these lectures, it is expected that misunderstandings about aging and dementia will be cleared up, and information on AI-based dementia prediction technology and non-pharmacological dementia treatment methods will be provided.
On March 18 and March 25, experiential education using virtual reality (VR) devices will be conducted, allowing participants to directly experience ‘reminiscence therapy,’ one of the non-pharmacological dementia programs. The lectures will be led by occupational therapists from the Nowon Dementia Safety Center, and participants will be able to experience a cognitive therapy program that promotes brain activation by recalling past memories through reminiscence.
The ‘Gwamanchi’ (Meeting Dementia at the Science Museum) program will be held for adults interested in dementia every Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. for 90 minutes from the 17th to the 31st of next month. Expert lectures are free of charge, and the experiential education using VR devices costs 5,000 KRW per person. Applications can be made through the Seoul Public Service Reservation system.
