UNIST and Gyeongnam Bank Collaborate to Create Sustainable Vegetable Gardens Together
On the 24th at 2 p.m., UNIST and Gyeongnam Bank held a donation agreement ceremony on the 6th floor of the UNIST main building to jointly create a ‘Sustainable Kitchen Garden’ on the UNIST campus.
UNIST is promoting the creation of a sensory-satisfying (五感滿足) ecological food garden that provides diverse vegetation, beautiful scenery, and healthy food, aiming to open in the first half of this year to realize a ‘carbon-neutral campus.’
The garden will be established on the lawn plaza around Gamakmot at UNIST, implementing the principles of sustainable agriculture such as low labor, pesticide-free, and fertilizer-free. Additionally, it will focus on native and wild plants to provide healthy food and beautiful scenery.
The garden will feature a whale-shaped four-season food garden inspired by the Bangudae Petroglyphs, where various plants such as trees, vegetables, herbs, and flowers can be seen, along with a small ecological pond and a vine bench, creating diverse spaces.

Choi Hong-young, President of BNK Gyeongnam Bank, said, “Once the ‘Sustainable Kitchen Garden’ is completed, it will become a creative resting space along with the UNIST complex cultural space,” and added, “We will continue to watch and support UNIST’s new challenges.”
Lee Yong-hoon, President of UNIST, stated, “UNIST is striving to create a space that members and Ulsan citizens can enjoy together,” and said, “Along with the opening of the complex cultural space last August, I hope the ‘Sustainable Kitchen Garden’ will become a landmark that Ulsan citizens can visit anytime.”
