'High-ranking Police Officer Suspended Amid Hundreds of Millions Won Bribery Allegations'
A current high-ranking police officer accused of receiving bribes worth several hundred million won from Daewoo Industrial Development in exchange for covering up an investigation has been placed on standby duty.
On the 24th, the National Police Agency announced that it had placed Kim, a current police superintendent under investigation by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (HOCI) for bribery related to his duties, on standby duty.
Kim is suspected of accepting money while working at the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency. HOCI believes that Daewoo Industrial Development delivered bribes worth several hundred million won to Kim in multiple installments. HOCI conducted raids on 10 locations, including the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, to gather evidence of bribery.

Kim worked at the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency from December 2021 until he was transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in August last year. His current rank is Police Superintendent, which is the fourth highest after Police Commissioner (Chief of Police), Senior Deputy Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner.
