49% Support 'Lee Jae-myung Arrest and Investigation' vs 41% Oppose [Gallup]
Party Support: People Power Party 37% · Democratic Party 34%
As the arrest consent bill for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was reported to the National Assembly plenary session on the 24th, a public opinion poll showed that support for 'arrest and investigation' regarding the investigation of Lee was significantly higher than opposition beyond the margin of error.
According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea from the 21st to the 23rd targeting 1,000 voters nationwide regarding the investigation of Lee (confidence level 95%, margin of error ±3.1 percentage points), 41% responded that 'arrest and investigation should be conducted,' while 41% said 'arrest and investigation should not be conducted.' 'Don't know/refused to answer' accounted for 11%.
Support for arrest and investigation was high among supporters of the People Power Party (84%) and conservative-leaning groups (72%), while opposition was high among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea (80%) and progressive-leaning groups (74%). By age group, those in their 20s and those aged 60 and above showed stronger voices in favor of arrest and investigation.
Regarding the 'parliamentary immunity from arrest,' 27% responded that it should be maintained to defend against political oppression, while 57% said it should be abolished for an investigation without sanctuary. Sixteen percent withheld their opinion.
President Yoon Suk-yeol's job performance approval rating was 37%, and disapproval was 56%. Compared to the previous survey, approval rose by 2 percentage points, and disapproval fell by 2 percentage points.
Reasons for positive evaluation included 'response to labor unions' (24%), 'fairness, justice, principles' (8%), and 'economy and livelihood' (7%). 'Don't know/refused to answer' was 15%.
Reasons for negative evaluation were 'economy, livelihood, prices' (18%), 'diplomacy' (10%), and 'arbitrary and unilateral' (9%). 'Don't know/refused to answer' was 13%.
Party support stood at 37% for the People Power Party and 34% for the Democratic Party of Korea. The non-affiliated group was 24%, and the Justice Party was 4%.

The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. It was conducted via telephone interviews with 95% mobile and 5% landline, and the response rate was 9.5%.
