Expiration of Protection Period Leads to Release of 'Presidential Designated Records'
A Total of Approximately 98,000 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Presidential Archives of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 24th that the protection period for over 98,000 "Presidential Designated Records" will expire tomorrow, resulting in their release.
The "Presidential Designated Records" being released this time include over 84,000 records designated by the 16th President (the late Roh Moo-hyun) with a 15-year protection period, and over 14,000 records designated by the 17th President (Lee Myung-bak) with a 10-year protection period, totaling over 98,000 records.
The released "Presidential Designated Records" are scheduled to be made public following the subsequent procedures below.
The Presidential Archives plans to expedite the disclosure process as much as possible through various efforts, including increasing processing personnel, for over 46,000 delayed records among the previously released designated records (2009?2022) totaling over 74,000, as well as the newly released designated records (2023) totaling over 98,000.
