Gwangju Nam-gu Operates Health Guardian 'Obyeongtongchi Classroom'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will resume the Obyeongtongchi Class program, which had been suspended for a long time due to the impact of COVID-19, to promote physical activity and health improvement among residents.
Nam-gu announced on the 23rd, "To increase physical activity among residents, including those with metabolic syndrome, we will operate the Obyeongtongchi Class program from March 13 to June 30," and added, "We are recruiting participants for the program until March 3."
The Obyeongtongchi Class is a physical activity program designed to support enjoyable healthy living for residents by checking five test items: blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, waist circumference, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol.
In particular, it has gained great popularity as a health guardian for residents, including patients with metabolic syndrome, due to its excellent exercise effects such as reducing body fat and improving muscle strength.
The program was suspended from early 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19 and has now reopened after four years.
The Obyeongtongchi Class program will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. for one hour from March 13 to the end of June, where participants will engage in physical activities through yoga.
Additionally, on the last Friday of every month, integrated health education will be conducted, covering topics such as preventing drug misuse and managing healthy eating habits.
Eligibility for the program requires residents to have three or more health risk factors among the five test items, including blood pressure and fasting blood glucose. Residents taking medication for hypertension, diabetes, or dyslipidemia must submit a prescription along with the application form by March 3.
Application forms can be submitted by visiting the Exercise Prescription Office on the 5th floor of Nam-gu Office by the deadline.
