GC Green Cross, Varicella Vaccine 'Baerisella' Receives WHO Prequalification Certification
Accelerating Efforts to Conquer the Global Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] GC Green Cross announced on the 20th that its varicella vaccine 'Barrycella' has obtained prequalification (PQ) certification from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Barrycella is a vaccine developed using the 'MAV/06' virus strain independently developed by GC Green Cross. Compared to existing products, it has increased virus content while significantly improving product stability. Through global clinical trials, GC Green Cross explained that it demonstrated non-inferiority in immunogenicity and confirmed equivalent safety levels compared to the previously PQ-certified 'VARIVAX'. Additionally, it is produced through processes such as cell culture, virus infection, and purification in the latest aseptic production system, and is uniquely manufactured worldwide without the use of antibiotics.
Prequalification is a system that evaluates the quality, efficacy, and safety of vaccines to grant eligibility for participation in international procurement market tenders. Following approvals for the novel flu vaccine and seasonal influenza vaccine, GC Green Cross has now received PQ approval for this varicella vaccine as well.
GC Green Cross plans to actively pursue the global market with Barrycella. The strategy is to expand the market based on the network that has supplied existing varicella vaccines worldwide.
