[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Meta Platforms is launching a new paid verification subscription service called 'Meta Verified' for Instagram and Facebook users.
According to the financial media CNBC, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced on the 19th (local time) that this service will be introduced to enhance trust and security across Instagram and Facebook services.
Users who pay $11.99 per month (web) or $14.99 (iOS) can receive a blue verification badge confirming their identity after submitting an ID verification process. CEO Zuckerberg stated that the service will start this week in Australia and New Zealand and will be expanded to other countries thereafter.
CNBC reported that Meta has so far provided verification services only to famous users such as politicians, executives, journalists, and institutions, and that the newly announced verification service is similar to Twitter's paid service 'Twitter Blue.' Twitter Blue is a paid service introduced by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, after acquiring Twitter last year, supporting features such as the 'blue check' that verifies the account user's identity.
