"US Accuses Russia of War Crimes in Ukraine to Demonize Moscow"
Russia, U.S. Official Condemnation as an Attempt to Justify Ukraine Support and Sanctions on Russia
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Russia claimed on the 19th (local time) that the United States is accusing Russia of crimes against humanity to justify its support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
Major foreign media reported that Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the United States, stated on Telegram that the U.S. is "demonizing" Russia.
This was in response to the U.S. conclusion the previous day that Russia committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said at the Munich Security Conference (MSC), the world's largest international security forum, "After analyzing the legal evidence related to Russia's conduct in Ukraine, there is no doubt that Russia has committed crimes against humanity," urging China to cease military support for Russia.
Crimes against humanity refer to widespread and systematic attacks against civilians, and those responsible are punished by the International Criminal Court (ICC), a permanent war crimes tribunal.
Examples of crimes against humanity include genocide, rape, torture, murder, and forced displacement.
Ambassador Antonov said, "There is no doubt that the U.S. made such claims to justify its own actions that are currently fueling the war in Ukraine."
He added, "These claims by the U.S. represent an unprecedented attempt to demonize Russia in this hybrid war targeting Russia."

View original imageCriticism that Russian forces committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine has been consistently raised since the outbreak of the war on February 24 last year.
A representative example is the discovery of hundreds of civilian bodies presumed to have been killed by Russian forces in Bucha, Ukraine, in March last year.
Testimonies continue to emerge alleging that Russian forces have committed organized sexual crimes against Ukrainian women and children.
The Russian government has completely denied these allegations, claiming that Western countries, including the U.S., are "framing" Russia to justify increased support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
Over the past year, the West has gradually increased the scale of weapons support, from Javelin anti-tank missiles, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and Patriot advanced air defense missile systems to main battle tanks such as Abrams and Leopard 2.
Sanctions against Russia have also been steadily strengthened, including halting imports of Russian energy, tightening financial channels, and restricting exports of various weapons, technology-related products, medicines, and daily necessities.
