Seoul City Postpones Bus and Subway Fare Increase to Second Half of the Year
Seemingly in Step with the Government's Public Utility Fee Freeze Policy
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has postponed the fare increase for public transportation such as buses and subways to the second half of this year.
According to Seoul City on the 15th, the city changed its stance to carry out the public transportation fare increase, originally scheduled for April, in the second half of the year.
This decision appears to align with the government's policy of freezing public utility fees in the first half of the year.
President Yoon Suk-yeol said at the 13th Emergency Economic and Livelihood Meeting on the morning of the same day, "With the burden of heating costs greatly increasing, and news of planned increases in public utility fees such as transportation adding to the difficulties, people are voicing their hardships," adding, "Public utility fees managed by the central government, such as roads, railways, and postal services, will be operated under a maximum freeze policy in the first half of the year. I ask local governments to also make efforts to stabilize fares."
