Muan-gun Signs Health Checkup Agreement with 9 Hospitals and Clinics for Vulnerable Groups
Complication Prevention Tests for Hypertension and Diabetes Patients
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) signed a health checkup business agreement on the 13th with nine hospitals and clinics to support complication prevention tests for hypertension and diabetes patients and hepatitis B and C tests for high-risk groups of liver cancer.
According to the county on the 14th, this business agreement aims to prevent severe diseases by preemptively testing complications such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, kidney diseases, and diabetic retinopathy, which have a high incidence in hypertension and diabetes patients, and to induce early screening and treatment of chronic hepatitis, which accounts for about 80% of liver cancer incidence.
The county health center selected 100 chronic disease patients under registered management and issued coupons for hypertension and diabetes complication tests. The recipients can receive essential tests for complication prevention free of charge at the contracted medical institutions, including carotid artery ultrasound, microalbuminuria, glycated hemoglobin, electrocardiogram, blood tests, and ophthalmologic examinations.
Additionally, 365 vulnerable individuals aged 40 and above, who are high-risk groups for liver cancer, will be tested for hepatitis B and C viruses, the main risk factors for liver cancer occurrence. Those with positive findings will be notified to the National Health Insurance Service as national liver cancer screening candidates and will receive continuous liver cancer prevention management.
However, those who are national liver cancer screening candidates for the current year and those who underwent hepatitis B and C tests in the previous year are excluded.
Governor Kim San stated, “Through this agreement, we expect to prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications among local residents and reduce the incidence of liver cancer in high-risk groups, thereby creating a healthy community.”
The contracted medical institutions are △Daesong Medical Foundation Muan Hospital △Namak Hana Internal Medicine △Namak Onnuri Internal Medicine △Ryu Internal Medicine △Yang Internal Medicine △Kim Tae-won Internal Medicine △Mangun Family Medicine △Seoul Ophthalmology △Mokpo City Medical Center.
