Nam Young-sook, Gyeongbuk Provincial Councilor, Appointed Co-Chair of the People Power Party Women's Local Councilors Association
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council announced on the 14th that Nam Young-sook (People Power Party, Sangju) was appointed as co-representative at the ‘6th National Women Local Councilors Association Inauguration Ceremony’ held at the People Power Party Central Office on the 10th.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the party leadership including Jeong Jin-seok, the People Power Party Emergency Committee Chairman, as well as next party leadership candidates such as Kim Ki-hyun and Ahn Cheol-soo, who all appealed for support from women local councilors.
Since the March 8 party convention will be conducted entirely by party member voters, the support of women local councilors who actively communicate with party members directly influences the party’s overall sentiment.
Nam Young-sook, a Gyeongbuk Provincial Council member appointed as co-representative, has served three terms as a Sangju city councilor and as chairperson, then was re-elected as a provincial council member, consistently working in the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee since joining the council. As the chairperson of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee, she has led the proposal of 13 ordinances.
Last year, she led the proposal to partially amend the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Women Farmers and Fishermen,’ establishing provisions related to the ‘Women Farmers and Fishermen’s Day,’ and clearly revising support grounds for joint management registration and the Women Farmers and Fishermen Happiness Voucher Support Project.
Additionally, after being appointed as the ‘Chairperson of the Gyeongbuk Women Local Councilors Association’ of the People Power Party in September last year, she has been at the forefront of creating political participation conditions for women in Gyeongbuk and improving their social status.
