"Establishment of Special Committee for Anti-Corruption Political Innovation... Applied Directly to Candidate Selection"
"Implementation of One-Strike-Out System... Expulsion of Low-Quality Politicians"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Ahn Cheol-soo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, pledged on the 12th, "I will only establish a fair and transparent nomination system and will not interfere in the nominations at all."
On the morning of the same day, at a policy vision presentation held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, Candidate Ahn said, "We must boldly eliminate regressive thoughts and behaviors. If there is vested interest, it must be boldly relinquished," adding, "I will be the first to step down."
He emphasized, "The rationality and fairness of the system will be verified and evaluated directly by party members through a 'party member verification process,'" and added, "We will block all favoritism and external pressure in nominations and ensure that nominations meet only the expectations of the public and party members."
He also said he would entrust the decision of his next electoral district to the party's nomination management committee.
Candidate Ahn stated, "If asked to run in my current district, I will do so, and if requested to run in a difficult district for the victory in the metropolitan area, I will gladly comply," adding, "As party leader, I will bear and endure anything for the party's victory."
He also announced plans to promote a "Waiver of Parliamentary Immunity Pledge" in the name of all party-affiliated National Assembly members.
Candidate Ahn said, "If an arrest warrant is issued against me, I will request the arrest through a speech in the plenary session, and this will be made a common pledge for all candidates running in next year's general election," adding, "I will also urge opposition Democratic Party lawmakers to participate in the pledge to put an end to the controversy."
Along with this, he said he would establish a special committee for anti-corruption political innovation within the party and implement a "one-strike-out system."
Candidate Ahn emphasized, "Through the anti-corruption innovation special committee, we will create public official standards based on the public's expectations for integrity, morality, and qualifications, and apply them directly to nominations," adding, "We will implement a political reform one-strike-out system that immediately expels immoral politicians involved in real estate speculation, tax evasion, slander, and abusive language from Yeouido."
