Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Strengthens Community Acceptance for Poland Nuclear Power Project
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on the 8th that it will carry out global volunteer activities in Konin City, Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, Poland, from the 7th to the 16th in collaboration with the nonprofit organization The Better World.
KHNP plans to enhance local residents' acceptance of the nuclear power project through volunteer activities targeting welfare and educational facilities in Konin City, which includes Pontnuf, the planned site for a new nuclear power plant in Poland.
A total of 35 participants will take part in this global volunteer activity, including 15 university student volunteers selected through a nationwide contest, 5 local university students, and KHNP employee volunteers. They plan to engage in efforts such as forest creation, environmental improvement, educational volunteering for local residents, and Korean Wave cultural exchange programs.
Jeon Dae-wook, head of the volunteer group and KHNP’s Planning Headquarters, said, "We hope that through this volunteer activity, Korean culture will become more familiar to the local residents in Poland, and through this, the trust between the two countries will become stronger. KHNP will continue various overseas volunteer activities to become a trusted global energy leader."

Meanwhile, Poland is planning to build a new nuclear power plant in the Pontnuf area of Konin City. KHNP has been striving to export new nuclear power plants, including signing a letter of intent last October with ZE PAK (a Polish private power company) and PGE (Polish Power Company).
