Pukyong National University and Dongseo University Establish Joint Degree Program in Digital Finance Department
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Pukyong National University and Dongseo University are promoting the establishment of a new 'Digital Finance Department' that awards degrees from both universities.
Pukyong National University and Dongseo University requested approval from the Ministry of Education on the 3rd to establish the joint Digital Finance Department to cultivate talent in the advanced technology field of digital finance.
Following last year's industry-academia cooperation agreement with the Korea Exchange, the two universities recently signed a detailed agreement for the joint establishment and operation of the Digital Finance Department.
Accordingly, starting from the 2024 academic year, each university plans to select 20 freshmen for the Digital Finance Department. Students graduating from this department will receive joint degrees from both universities.
The department aims to build a leading model for nurturing new technology talent based on Busan's innovative efforts to become a digital finance hub, cultivating 'QUANT (Quantitative Analyst) type' fintech specialists who will lead the future financial industry.
To this end, the curriculum will be jointly organized and operated, including ▲finance and financial theory ▲mathematics, statistics theory, data science, programming ▲blockchain ▲big data and ICT financial technology ▲internships and field training.
Courses under the joint curriculum will be divided and offered at each university. Students will attend lectures and earn credits by moving between the two universities. Faculty members will be assigned with at least four full-time professors at each university, totaling eight or more.
To establish and operate the joint department, Pukyong National University plans to strategically invest digital innovation talent development infrastructure such as the 'Digital New Technology Talent Development Program' and the 'SW Professional Talent Development Project,' while Dongseo University will invest infrastructure including convergence and linked majors like AI, big data, Internet of Things, and integrated bachelor-master tracks.
