Hapcheon-gun Holds Dangsan Festival for Natural Monument 'Hwayang-ri Pine Tree'
Praying for the Village's Well-being and Residents' Health and Longevity
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, held a Dangsanje ritual on the first full moon of the lunar new year, on the 5th, at the natural monument ‘Hapcheon Myosan-myeon Hwayang-ri Pine Tree’ located in Sangnagok Village, Hwayang-ri, Myosan-myeon, organized by the village residents.
This event is supported by the Cultural Heritage Administration and Hapcheon-gun to discover various folk events related to the natural monument that has coexisted with local residents for many years. It is a community ritual praying to the village guardian deity Dangsan for the village’s peace and the residents’ health and longevity.

The Hwayang-ri Pine Tree is about 17.7 meters tall and 6.15 meters in circumference, estimated to be around 500 years old. Every year on the 14th day of the lunar calendar’s first month, a Sansinje ritual is held, and on the full moon day, all village residents participate in the Dangsanje ritual in front of the pine tree.
