Namsangol Hanok Village, Daljip Burning Event Returns After 4 Years
February 5th Jeongwol Daeboreum Event Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Seoul's Namsangol Hanok Village will hold the seasonal event ‘2023 Namsangol Sesirum Ipchun·Jeongwol Daeboreum
First, on Ipchun (the first solar term of the 24 solar terms) on the 4th, the ‘Ipchuncheop Pasting’ event will be held at 10 a.m. A selected demonstrator from a public contest will write the ‘Ipchuncheop’ and paste it on the main gate of Namsangol Hanok Village.
On Jeongwol Daeboreum (the 15th day of the first lunar month), one of the major traditional holidays of our nation, a citizen participation event will be held from 2 p.m. A ‘Wish Tree’ will be set up where citizens can write their wishes on paper and hang them on the tree. Additionally, a ‘Bureom Cracking Experience’ will be provided, allowing participants to personally experience the ancestral custom of cracking nuts to pray for protection against skin ailments throughout the year. Both the Wish Tree and Bureom Cracking experiences are free to participate in on-site.
From 6 p.m. that day, the ‘Gwanggaeto Samulnori’ performance titled 'Chukwon Jisinbalgi Honuisori' will entertain citizens. Through lively performances such as street parades and play stages, this will be a time to ward off misfortune from homes and pray for peace and great blessings throughout the year.
Immediately following the ‘Gwanggaeto Samulnori’ performance, at 6:30 p.m., the highlight of the Jeongwol Daeboreum event, the ‘Daljip Burning’ ceremony, will take place. The Daljip Burning ceremony is a seasonal custom where a pile of pine branches and other materials is set on fire to burn away misfortune and pray for the peace and blessings of families. This year’s Daljip Burning will also burn the wish papers collected from visitors to Namsangol Hanok Village since last year’s Dongji event, hoping that each wish will reach far into the sky..
