KOSHA Supports Safety Research and Development for Hazardous and Dangerous Machinery Manufacturing Industry
Purchase cost within 60%, up to 50 million KRW
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's Industrial Safety and Health Certification Institute (Director Shin Yong-woo) supports research and development by hazardous risk machinery manufacturers to develop excellent safety-certified products.
This year, support will be provided for new product and new technology research and development costs for safety certification target products (up to 60% of the required costs) or purchase costs for testing equipment to verify safety performance (up to 50% of the required costs), with a maximum purchase fund of up to 50 million KRW per workplace.
Applicants must be manufacturers of hazardous and risky machinery, protective devices, or protective gear that have received safety certification or have conducted voluntary safety confirmation reporting. The workplace must be registered as a manufacturer with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and must not have had safety certification cancellations or similar issues in the past two years.
Workplaces wishing to apply should fill out the application form provided on the agency's website and submit it by mail or email to the Certification Institute (Protective Gear Certification Department) by February 24.
Additionally, business briefing sessions will be held on February 3 (Seoul) and February 7 (Busan), and attendance is possible upon prior registration. During on-site evaluations, plans to apply risk assessments to evaluation items will also be guided concurrently.
The total support amount for 2023 is 557 million KRW, and the agency has decided to prioritize support for the development of small-sized personalized protective gear or safety-certified products using eco-friendly materials. After selection reviews by internal and external experts, the results of the support target selection will be announced in March.
Last year, the agency supported a total of 16 manufacturers with 547 million KRW, providing an average of 47 million KRW per workplace for research and development funds and an average of 22 million KRW for testing equipment purchase funds.
Notably, the ‘Industrial Robot Protective Device through Optoelectronic Lens Cover Design,’ developed with research and development fund support, was patented, and testing equipment capable of overseas certification performance tests such as EN (European Norm) and JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) was supported, greatly aiding exports and market development.
