Korean Prime Minister: "We Will Leap to Become One of the World's Top 3 AI Powers by 2026"
Will Become a Leading Nation in the Data Hegemony Competition
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo announced on the 26th that "we will leap to become one of the world's top three artificial intelligence (AI) powers by 2026."
On the same day, Prime Minister Han made this statement at the 2nd National Data Policy Committee meeting held at the headquarters of AI company Hyperconnect in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, saying, "We will become a leading country in the data hegemony competition." The Data Policy Committee is an organization that deliberates on overall national data policies, chaired by the Prime Minister, with the Ministers of Science and ICT and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety serving as joint secretaries.
He explained, "To this end, we will focus on fostering the artificial intelligence sector, which is the core of the data industry."
Specifically, Prime Minister Han stated that he would support the creation of new data industries through ▲expanding demand-customized opening of public data, ▲strengthening the linkage and utilization of private and public data. He also said he would nurture world-class data companies by ▲discovering and supporting excellent data innovation companies, and ▲establishing support programs tailored to different growth stages.
Prime Minister Han pointed out that since the Fourth Industrial Revolution, led by AI and big data, was first proposed at the Davos Forum in January 2016, the development of the data economy has been accelerating.
He mentioned, "At this year's Consumer Electronics Show in the United States, a battleground for advanced IT products, fierce competition took place to secure global leadership by showcasing numerous innovative technologies that combine data and artificial intelligence and transcend reality and virtuality."
