Seoul City Recruiting Over 700 Members for 'Seoul Run Mentor Group'
Anyone Under 39 Years Old Enrolled in University or Graduate School Can Apply
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that it will recruit about 700 members for the ‘Seoul Run Mentor Group’ to support the reduction of learning gaps among elementary, middle, and high school students in line with the expanded operation of ‘Seoul Run 2.0’ to eliminate educational blind spots. Anyone under the age of 39 who is a university (graduate school) student nationwide can apply, and recruitment will be conducted through the scholarship department of their affiliated university until the 8th of next month.
The Seoul Run Mentor Group will serve as ‘coaches’ who systematically guide students’ learning so that Seoul Run participants can fully utilize various learning contents, and as ‘counselors’ who share concerns about school life, career paths, and college admissions. To strengthen Seoul Run mentoring, from this year, additional allowances will be provided for mentors engaged in long-term activities (9 weeks or more), incentives will be offered for high school student mentoring, and activity fees will be expanded as support funds for vulnerable university students.
Additionally, existing Seoul Run members who apply to the mentor group will be given selection bonus points to create a virtuous cycle of learning where ‘Seoul Run mentees’ can aspire to become ‘Seoul Run mentors’ after entering university.
In particular, this year, regular training for the mentor group will be expanded and strengthened to support capacity building, and mentoring hours will be increased from the existing 1 hour per week to up to 2 hours per week to enhance learning effectiveness.
University (graduate) students wishing to apply for the regular recruitment of the Seoul Run Mentor Group should submit the application form and related documents to the scholarship department of their affiliated university. Seoul City will conduct expert evaluations on the students recommended by each university and make the final selection. Once finally selected as mentors, they will begin full activities after completing mandatory preliminary training and orientation, and will receive benefits such as activity fees for mentoring activities, education participation allowances, issuance of activity certificates, and mayoral commendations for outstanding mentors.
Seoul City plans to continue regular and occasional recruitment after the first regular recruitment, expanding the mentor group from 1,000 members last year to 1,500 this year, and will also expand support for university visits and various affinity programs for the mutual growth of mentors and mentees. Furthermore, Seoul City will promote a quantitatively and qualitatively improved ‘Seoul Run 2.0’ this year, providing a stronger educational ladder for children and adolescents who have the will to study but have been unable to realize their dreams due to socioeconomic reasons, by expanding support for target groups and textbooks, diversifying content, and launching the ‘Seoul-type Education Platform’ in addition to expanding mentoring.

Lee Hoeseung, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Lifelong Education Bureau, said, “So that children and adolescents can dream of and challenge a better future, the Seoul Run Mentor Group will be a reliable support group as seniors who have experienced that path first,” and added, “The renewed Seoul Run 2.0 will also spare no support so that mentors and mentees can teach, learn, and grow together.”
