Accident Downstream of China's Sanmenxia Dam... 2 Dead, 7 Missing in Rapids

According to Chinese local media such as Huanqiu Shibao, at around 4:10 p.m. on the 22nd, the last day of the Spring Festival holiday, two tourists drowned and seven went missing after being swept away by suddenly swollen waters downstream of the Sanmenxia Dam in Henan Province, China.
The local rescue team dispatched after receiving the report rescued ten people from the water, but two of them died after being transported to the hospital for treatment, and seven remain missing.
Witnesses said, "The river swelled in an instant, and people playing in the shallow water hurriedly evacuated, but some could not escape in time and were swept away by the rapid current."
The accident site is located 1 to 2 km downstream from the Sanmenxia Dam, the second largest dam on the Yellow River, and is a popular tourist destination known as the "Maldives of Sanmenxia" due to its outstanding scenery combining shallow rapids and sandy beaches.
Although entry is normally prohibited due to severe water depth changes, it is reported that people visiting for the Spring Festival broke through the fence and suffered the accident.
