'LA Shooting' 70s Asian Elderly Single-handed Crime... 10 Dead
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The mass shooting incident that occurred in the small city of Monterey Park in Los Angeles (LA) County, USA, has been identified as a lone act by a 72-year-old Asian American man.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced on the 22nd (local time) during a briefing in front of Monterey Park City Hall that the suspect in the shooting is Asian American male Hu Can Tran (72).
According to the police, Tran opened fire on the 21st at Star Dance, a dance studio in Monterey Park where many Chinese and other Asian residents live. Five men and five women died at the scene, and 10 others were injured.
Sheriff Robert Luna stated that Tran acted alone and that a semi-automatic assault-style pistol was recovered at the crime scene.

Tran was found dead on the same day about 40 minutes by car from Monterey Park. Police explained that Tran moved to an outdoor parking lot of a shopping mall in Torrance, California, where he took his own life, and that the motive for the crime is still under investigation.
