Democratic Party Leadership: "The General Atmosphere Is That It Should Not Be Accepted"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will announce his position on the prosecution's summons related to the Daejang-dong allegations on the afternoon of the 18th.
Cho Jung-sik, Secretary General of the Democratic Party, explained to reporters after the party's Supreme Council meeting on the same day, "After Lee visits Mangwon Market in the afternoon, he plans to directly comment on whether he will appear (for the summons)."
Earlier, on the 16th, the prosecution notified Lee to appear at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the 27th regarding the 'Wirye and Daejang-dong development allegations.'
Since the summons notification, Lee has remained silent about whether he will appear.
Secretary General Cho said, "The overall atmosphere within the party is that we should not respond lightly to the prosecution's reckless actions," adding, "Whether to appear is a matter for Lee to decide."
Ahn Ho-young, chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party, also stated, "The general sentiment among lawmakers is that the prosecution's summons is a form of political oppression and an unjust attempt to disgrace, and they should not comply," but added, "Lee will take these factors into account when making his statement."
