Seoul Area Junior Colleges Regular Admission Competition Rate 10.2 to 1... Slight Increase from Previous Year
Decrease in Recruitment Numbers Affects Increase in Competition Rate
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The average regular admission competition rate for nine specialized colleges in the Seoul area for the 2023 academic year has slightly increased compared to last year.
According to Jongno Academy on the 15th, the average regular admission competition rate for the nine specialized colleges in the Seoul area, after the application deadline, was 10.2 to 1, up from the previous year's average of 9.0 to 1.
By school, the nursing and health-related departments with strong employment prospects, such as Samyuk Health University (30.8 to 1) and Seoul Women's Nursing University (22.5 to 1), ranked first and second in average competition rates, respectively.
Next were Seoil University (14.6 to 1), Hanyang Women's University (12.9 to 1), Induk University (11.1 to 1), Myongji College (10.9 to 1), Soongui Women's University (7.6 to 1), Dongyang Mirae University (5.4 to 1), and Baehwa Women's University (4.6 to 1) in order.

Among humanities departments, Baehwa Women's University’s Japanese Language Department under the general admission track (focused on the CSAT) had the highest competition rate at 69.0 to 1, while among natural science departments, Samyuk Health University’s Medical Information Department under the general admission track had the highest competition rate at 45.5 to 1.
Jongno Academy analyzed that the rise in competition rates at specialized colleges is more due to a decrease in the number of recruits rather than an increase in preference for the colleges themselves.
In fact, the total number of applicants to the nine specialized colleges in the Seoul area decreased by 1.4%, from 39,173 last year to 38,606 this year, while the total number of recruits dropped by 12.4%, from 4,339 to 3,799, resulting in an increased competition rate.
Considering that there is no limit on the number of applications for specialized college regular admissions, Jongno Academy explained that this year's average competition rate is still not at a high level.

Lim Sung-ho, CEO of Jongno Academy, stated, "Considering multiple admissions to four-year universities and transfers within the same specialized college through multiple admissions, some departments in specialized colleges in the Seoul area may need to conduct additional recruitment beyond the regular admission process. Given the recent significant occurrence of additional recruitment in four-year general universities, large-scale additional recruitment in specialized colleges is also inevitable."
