Convenience stores have launched holiday lunchboxes targeting single-person households for this year's Lunar New Year.
According to CU on the 15th, the year-on-year sales growth rate of lunchboxes during the holiday period over the past three years was 12.6% in 2020, 15.0% in 2021, and 13.4% in 2022. As restaurants close during the holidays, convenience stores are replacing the role of restaurants.
CU will release the Beef Bulgogi Tteokguk Full Set Lunchbox on the 17th. It includes tteokguk made with beef bone broth, and the representative holiday dishes of beef bulgogi and japchae. The Real Whole Meat Tteokguk, a home meal replacement (HMR), uses pork bone sauce for the broth and is topped with whole pieces of pork to enhance flavor and texture.
GS25 is selling the Five-Color Korean Set Meal Lunchbox. This product is a comprehensive set of representative holiday dishes including tteok-mandu-guk (rice cake and dumpling soup), black rice topped with ginkgo nuts, neobiani (grilled marinated beef), grilled omisanjeok (five-flavored skewers), grilled meat patties, and seasoned vegetables. GS25 will hold a promotion from the 19th for three days, offering a 30% discount to customers who pre-order the Five-Color Korean Set Meal Lunchbox through the app "Our Neighborhood GS." The event is limited to the first 1,000 units per day, and customers can choose the date to receive the product up until the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 24th.
