Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Delivers Hometown Love Donation to Gochang County
Hometown Love Donation Ceremony Held in Line with the Implementation of the Hometown Love Donation System on January 1, 2023
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 13th, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, visited Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, a sister city of Mapo-gu, to deliver hometown love donations and share the current status of fundraising and promotional plans.
This donation ceremony was held to coincide with the implementation of the Hometown Love Donation System on January 1, 2023, as a promotional effort for the development of the sister city Gochang-gun and the successful establishment of the Hometown Love Donation System.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “The Hometown Love Donation System, which is being implemented for the first time this year, will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by supplementing local finances that have deteriorated due to low birth rates and population outflow, and by fostering a healthy donation culture. Mapo-gu will do its best to ensure that a large amount of donations can be collected through close cooperation and promotion between the district and its sister cities.”
The Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to donate to local governments other than their place of residence, which then use the funds to improve residents' welfare. This system was introduced for the first time this year. Individuals can donate up to 5 million KRW annually, and donations up to 100,000 KRW are fully tax-deductible. Local governments provide donors with thank-you gifts worth up to 30% of the donation amount.
Meanwhile, Mapo-gu plans to establish a comprehensive plan to ensure the smooth establishment and activation of the Hometown Love Donation System, selecting thank-you gifts that reflect the local characteristics, such as Mapo Love Gift Certificates, for donors who contribute to Mapo-gu.
