MBC Suspends Replay Service
Appearing as 'Broker Assistant'
Lee Mo, the rental business operator known as 'Villa King' who managed 413 'empty-can jeonse' properties, was revealed late to have appeared on MBC's 'Save Me! Homes'. MBC has suspended the replay service of the episode and is taking measures to address the situation.
According to MBC's official website and Wavve on the 11th, the 8th episode of 'Save Me! Homes' aired on May 19, 2019, has had its replay service suspended. This is due to allegations that Lee, who appeared in the episode, embezzled approximately 31 billion KRW in deposits.
It was recently revealed that Mr. Lee, the landlord known as 'Villa King,' who operates 413 'empty can jeonse' rental properties, previously appeared on MBC's 'Save Me! Homes.'

Lee, who appeared on the show as a 'broker assistant', guided a client couple searching for a jeonse house to a villa unit on the 2nd floor. The celebrity cast introduced the features of the property to the clients and viewers. It was later revealed that Lee personally owned a unit on the 5th floor of the villa, which was involved in the 'empty-can jeonse' scheme.
A broker assistant refers to a person who is not a licensed real estate agent but is affiliated with a licensed agent, assisting with simple tasks related to brokerage work such as on-site guidance of brokerage properties and general clerical duties. Lee introduced other properties in the same building as his own unit on the broadcast, aiming for a combined promotional effect. Afterwards, Lee also posted about his appearance on the show on his personal social media to increase recognition and trust.
Lee was arrested last month on charges of embezzling 31.2 billion KRW in deposits from 118 tenants after purchasing 413 villas in the Seoul metropolitan area through zero-capital gap investment. However, the police believe the actual number of victims is higher, including those who have not reported damages citing reasons such as having deposit insurance.
