Jeongeup-si Operates Citizen Safety Insurance... Playing a Vital Role as a Social Safety Net
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is effectively playing the role of a social safety net by operating a ‘Citizen Safety Insurance’ to ensure stable living for citizens from various disasters and accidents.
According to the city on the 10th, Citizen Safety Insurance is a system where the city directly contracts with insurance companies and bears the cost to pay insurance benefits to citizens who suffer various accidents through the insurance companies.
It has been subscribed annually since 2020 to support the stable living of citizens who have suffered damage from accidents frequently occurring in daily life, natural disasters, fires, and other disasters.
The insurance is automatically subscribed for citizens residing in Jeongeup without any separate procedures, and even those who move in during the insurance period or reach the eligible age for compensation can receive benefits.
The insurance coverage includes 13 items such as natural disasters (limited to death), explosion, fire, collapse, landslide, public transportation accidents, robbery and murder, school zone traffic accidents, drowning, agricultural machinery accidents, dog bite emergency room visits, and personal mobility device accidents.
In the case of injury aftereffects and disabilities, up to 10 million KRW is paid depending on the grade. Overlapping support is possible even if insured by other insurance, and compensation can be received regardless of the accident location.
Especially this year, death and aftereffect disability items for personal mobility devices have been added. Coverage for personal mobility devices applies only to cases reported and registered at the police station, and compensation of up to 10 million KRW can be received for death or injury/aftereffect disability.
To claim insurance benefits, the victim or legal heir must submit a claim form and required documents to the Korea Local Finance Association upon occurrence of the claim reason.
The city plans to intensively promote detailed information about Citizen Safety Insurance, including coverage and claim procedures, through various media such as the city website and SNS so that many citizens can use it.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “Citizen Safety Insurance is a good system that helps citizens recover their daily lives after suffering from unexpected disasters or accidents,” and added, “We will continue to prioritize citizens’ lives and safety in policy implementation.”
