81 Donors in 8 Days, High-Value Donors Over 1 Million Won Also Steady
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Since the implementation of the Hometown Love Donation System on January 1st this year, a continuous stream of donations has been flowing into Damyang-gun, mainly from locals who have moved away from the region.
On the 9th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that many people have participated in the 'Hometown Love Donation System,' which revitalizes the local economy, offers specialty products, and provides tax deduction benefits, successfully getting off to a strong start.
The county currently offers thank-you gifts selected from 18 companies across 14 product categories, including rice, Korean beef (Hanwoo), and grilled short rib patties (Tteokgalbi).
The diverse and distinctive thank-you gifts include ▲rice ▲Hanwoo ▲Tteokgalbi ▲traditional liquor ▲Korean sweets (Hangwa) ▲rice syrup ▲fermented sauces ▲bamboo shoots ▲cherry tomatoes ▲Shine Muscat grapes ▲blueberries ▲persimmons ▲Damyang Love Gift Certificates ▲tourism and cultural products.
County Governor Lee Byeongno emphasized the importance of the Hometown Love Donation System, stating, “The system will play a significant role in reducing financial disparities between regions,” and urged, “We hope for much interest and participation in the donation system.”
Meanwhile, the Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to donate up to 5 million KRW annually to local governments (metropolitan or basic) other than their place of residence. The donations are used to improve the welfare of local residents through support for socially vulnerable groups, youth programs, and community revitalization projects.

Donations up to 100,000 KRW are fully tax-deductible, and amounts exceeding that receive a 16.5% tax credit. Additionally, thank-you gifts are provided within 30% of the donation amount.
