Gangwon-do, 'Resolving Natural Disaster Factors'... Early Operation of Prevention Project Task Force
5 Sectors, 125 Districts, 148.2 Billion Won Invested
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is operating the 'Disaster Prevention Project Early Promotion Team' to proactively eliminate risk factors and create jobs in the construction sector.
According to the province on the 6th, the 'Disaster Prevention Project Early Promotion Team' is composed of 18 members across 5 teams, led by the Director of the Disaster Safety Office.
By the end of next month, more than 90% of disaster prevention projects will be ordered, and the promotion team will be operated continuously until the end of June, before the rainy season, to complete major construction works.
To protect lives and property from natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rains in summer, the team will focus on five areas: ▲Flood and wind disaster living zones ▲Natural disaster risk improvement districts ▲Steep slope collapse risk areas ▲Disaster-risk reservoir maintenance projects ▲Stormwater detention facility installation projects.
The flood and wind disaster living zones will unify disaster risk factor elimination projects from various ministries under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, while the natural disaster risk improvement districts will remove risk factors in designated improvement zones prone to flooding and collapse.
Steep slopes will be maintained according to mid-term plans to address collapse risk areas, and stormwater detention facilities will focus on preventing urban flooding damage caused by rapidly increasing rainfall.
Additionally, disaster-risk reservoir projects will refurbish old reservoirs managed by local governments to prevent large-scale casualties in advance.
In particular, in cooperation with cities and counties, the team will jointly inspect design and administrative procedures, construction management status, and systematically guide and manage underperforming projects through expert consultations and countermeasure meetings.
The total scale of disaster prevention projects this year is 3.204 trillion KRW, with the province planning to invest 148.2 billion KRW, an increase of 42.5 billion KRW compared to last year.
By project, funding increased by 14 billion KRW for flood and wind disasters, 9.4 billion KRW for disaster risk improvement, 12.7 billion KRW for steep slopes, and 8.2 billion KRW for stormwater detention facility projects.
