Busan City Establishes and Implements Household Waste Management Measures for Lunar New Year Holiday
1.21~24 Operation of City/District/County Cleaning Countermeasures Situation Room, Mobile Cleaning Team, and Enforcement Patrol Team
Rapid Collection and Intensive Guidance and Enforcement on Illegal Dumping, Creating a Pleasant Urban Environment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City has prepared and is implementing the ‘Seol Holiday Household Waste Management Measures’ to ensure that all citizens can spend a clean and hygienic Lunar New Year holiday.
First, from the first day of the holiday on the 21st to the 24th, a four-day period has been designated as the intensive cleaning and enforcement period, and the city and each district/county will operate cleaning countermeasure situation rooms (256 personnel over 4 days). They plan to establish a constant response system to minimize citizen inconvenience.
During the holiday, due to the increase in the use of disposable items such as packaging and delivery, illegal dumping may surge. Therefore, mobile cleaning teams and enforcement patrol teams will be organized in each district/county, deploying about 3,000 workers on site during the holiday period.
Through this, waste generated during the holiday will be promptly collected and processed, and illegal dumping will be intensively monitored in areas expected to have waste dumping such as habitual unsanitary spots, road congestion sections, and inner city side roads.
On the 16th, a large-scale cleaning to welcome Lunar New Year guests will be conducted throughout the city, and on the 25th and 26th, after the holiday ends, a final large-scale cleaning will be carried out to promptly collect household waste discarded in various places, promoting a pleasant daily life for citizens before and after Seol.
A city official stated, “Since the waste collection schedules and times differ by district/county during the holiday, we ask all citizens to be sure to check the disposal dates and types through the city and each district/county websites.” He added, “Most districts/counties prohibit waste disposal only on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), and normal disposal is allowed from Monday, so it is expected that there will be little inconvenience caused by waste disposal during the holiday.”
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “We will take special care to prevent citizen inconvenience such as collection delays and illegal dumping caused by the temporary increase in waste during the Lunar New Year holiday, and do our best so that all citizens can spend a clean and pleasant Seol holiday.”
Along with implementing these waste management measures, the city will also focus on inspecting oversized packaging distribution of Seol gift sets and the appropriateness of separation disposal labeling.
