[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] It has been revealed that a man working at a major domestic bank is being subjected to unfair power harassment by his workplace superior, sparking controversy.
Recently, a post titled "Please save my husband" was uploaded on anonymous online communities for office workers and popular internet forums. The author, Ms. A, disclosed that her husband works at a large bank and exposed the unfair treatment he endured from his superior, the department head.
According to Ms. A, the department head extorted 1 million won from her husband through a bet on screen golf and also fined him 1 million won for failing to meet performance targets.
The department head's misconduct was not limited to financial issues. He also committed verbal and physical abuse, such as slapping and uttering words unfit to mention. Additionally, he instructed monitoring posts on certain online communities and to report them, causing Ms. A’s husband to be unable to put down his phone even after work hours.
The department head’s power harassment also affected Ms. A. Recently, her husband asked her, "Sorry, but could you pack some gimbap?" When she asked why, he replied, "The department head likes gimbap, but he’s tired of buying it, so the employees take turns bringing gimbap."
Despite the difficult situation, Ms. A’s husband endured it, hoping for the department head’s personnel transfer, but the recent personnel reshuffle did not include the department head’s transfer. Eventually, unable to tolerate the department head’s harassment any longer, Ms. A posted the story anonymously on an online community on behalf of her husband.
Ms. A appealed, saying, "(The department head) is someone who should not exist in any company or organization," and asked for support so that her husband’s department colleagues could live normally and not feel ashamed in front of their spouses. She also disclosed information that could help infer the bank’s name, the department head’s surname, and department.
