Legal Basis Established for Protecting the Rights of Urban Small Manufacturers
Promulgation of the Amendment to the Special Act on Support for Urban Small Manufacturers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young) announced on the 6th that the amendment to the "Special Act on Support for Urban-type Small Manufacturers" (hereinafter referred to as the Small Manufacturers Act), aimed at protecting the rights and interests and promoting the welfare of small manufacturers and their workers, has been promulgated.
Urban-type small manufacturers are the backbone of our industry, but due to poor working conditions, there have been difficulties in training skilled personnel and transferring technology. The core technologies possessed by small manufacturers are also at risk of being lost. Therefore, with this amendment to the Small Manufacturers Act, a legal foundation has been established to build infrastructure and promote support projects for stable working environments and welfare enhancement for small manufacturers and their workers.
The amendment includes provisions for protecting the rights and interests and promoting the welfare of small manufacturers and their workers, as well as employment stability to secure skilled manpower. This is to systematically support the stable growth of small manufacturers, which form the foundation of the manufacturing industry.
Additionally, local government heads are now authorized to carry out infrastructure projects such as installing rest and welfare facilities for workers within urban-type small manufacturer clusters. This is expected to improve the welfare of workers operating in harsh working environments.
