DRAM and NAND Prices Without Rebound... Stagnant at the Bottom in December as Well
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Memory semiconductor prices have failed to find a rebound opportunity in December as well, remaining stagnant at bottom levels.
According to market research firm DRAMeXchange on the 30th, the average fixed transaction price of PC DRAM general-purpose products (DDR4 1Gx8) in December was $2.21, marking three consecutive months of stagnation since last October. The fixed transaction price refers to the contract transaction amount between semiconductor manufacturers and IT companies. It is considered a key indicator of the semiconductor market situation.
DRAM prices peaked at $4.10 in July last year, then steadily declined to $3.41 in January this year, $2.88 in July, and $2.21 in October. Compared to a year ago, prices have plunged by more than 40%. Having missed rebound opportunities for three consecutive months at the end of the year, there is growing weight on the possibility of further price declines in DRAM in the first quarter of next year. Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce predicted that considering contract situations for the first quarter of next year, further declines in DRAM prices are inevitable. The expected price drop from the fourth quarter of this year to the first quarter of next year is around 15-20%.

The situation is similar for NAND prices. The fixed transaction price of general-purpose products for memory cards and USBs (128Gb 16Gx8 MLC) recorded an average of $4.14 this month, also remaining at the same level for three consecutive months. NAND products declined for five consecutive months from June to October and have been consolidating at the bottom for three months. Industry insiders believe that NAND flash prices are likely to remain at similar levels in January due to low transaction volumes and almost unchanged supply and demand.
