Yeonggwang-gun Selected as ‘Best County’ in Food and Horticulture Work Evaluation

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 27th that it was selected as the 'Best County' in the 2022 Jeollanam-do Food and Horticulture Work Evaluation.

This evaluation targeted 21 cities and counties in the province and was conducted to enhance project feasibility and encourage active participation of cities and counties by thoroughly assessing projects in the food and horticulture sectors. It comprehensively evaluated 14 items across three fields: food policy, horticulture industry, and subtropical agriculture.

The county received high marks for discovering and promoting various new policies such as increasing the number of agricultural policy insurance subscribers through additional support, expanding the new area of facility greenhouses to broaden the foundation for high value-added agriculture, selection for the food crop joint management body cultivation contest project, and supplying drones for pest control.

It was also recognized for implementing policies in the food and horticulture sectors, including securing appropriate rice cultivation areas, expanding facility horticulture cultivation areas, and fostering young farmers in the horticulture industry.

Governor Kang Jongman said, “Being selected as the Best County in this evaluation is thanks to the farmers and related personnel who actively participated in county policies to establish a foundation for food and horticulture production and enhance competitiveness.”

He added, “We will continue to actively discover and implement support measures to increase farmers' income and strengthen competitiveness, doing our best to realize a ‘prosperous agricultural and fishing village.’”

Meanwhile, the county is elevating its status as a top agricultural county by being selected as the Best County in all three agricultural fields evaluated by Jeollanam-do: ‘Agricultural Administration Work,’ ‘Food and Horticulture Work,’ and ‘Agricultural Food Distribution Work.’
