[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, has ordered to do his best to alleviate residents' inconveniences and restore damages caused by heavy snow and cold waves.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 26th, Governor Kim held a damage report meeting on heavy snow and cold waves at the provincial government’s disaster comprehensive situation room that morning.
At the meeting, he urged thorough investigations to ensure rapid recovery and no omission of damages, as well as efforts to relieve residents' inconveniences.
In the Jeonnam region, a heavy snow warning was issued for 21 cities and counties including Mokpo for three days until the 24th, with Jangseong recording the highest snowfall of 36.1 cm.
Hwasun recorded 30 cm, Damyang 25.9 cm, and much snow fell mainly inland. During this period, temperatures dropped to minus 17 degrees Celsius in Jangseong and minus 15 degrees Celsius in Gurye.
Accordingly, as of that morning, it was tentatively estimated that 137 agricultural facility greenhouses in 84 farms, 35 livestock barns in 13 farms, and 9 land-based aquaculture facilities in 2 households were damaged in the Jeonnam region.
Governor Kim said, “Even if snow removal is completed, please inspect carefully to ensure that residents’ daily lives are not inconvenienced,” and instructed, “Clear remaining snow on bridges and mountain passes, and promptly carry out emergency repairs on localized small potholes to prevent safety accidents.”
He continued, “Support prompt emergency recovery for damaged agricultural, livestock, and fisheries households to prevent secondary damage, and conduct thorough investigations to ensure no damage reports are missed.”
He also added, “As the severe cold continues, check on vulnerable groups, and visit elderly people who are difficult to reach by phone to provide assistance.”
Jeonnam Province implemented damage mitigation measures during this heavy snow period, including ▲ safety inspections of agricultural facilities such as greenhouses ▲ relocation of aquaculture fish to wintering sites ▲ control of fishing vessel departures and arrivals, mooring, and evacuation ▲ restricting access to dangerous areas such as breakwaters and coastal zones to prevent casualties.
