Prosecution Indicts Former Supreme Council Member Hwang Hee-seok Without Detention for Defamation of Minister Han Dong-hoon
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The prosecution has indicted Hwang Hee-seok, former Supreme Council Member of the Open Democratic Party, who raised suspicions about the tracking of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation's accounts targeting Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice.
On the 26th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had non-detained indicted former Supreme Council Member Hwang in mid-this month on charges of defamation by spreading false information.
Former Supreme Council Member Hwang is accused of defaming Minister Han through false information during an appearance on the TBS YouTube channel 'National Assembly Front Yujeong Dabang' in November last year. He alleged, "(The prosecution) tracked the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation's accounts and reviewed all transaction details from September to October 2019," and "In the process, they shared information with a Channel A reporter to catch former Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min through SillaJen."

At the time in 2019, Minister Han, who was the head of the Anti-Corruption and Strong Crime Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, denied ever tracking the accounts of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation or former Chairman Yoo, and filed a complaint against former Supreme Council Member Hwang with the police in December last year. In August, the police sent former Supreme Council Member Hwang to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.
