Handonghun on Democratic Party's Disclosure of Prosecutors: "Inciting Public Officials by Targeting Them... Undermining the Rule of Law"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's controversy over the 'public disclosure of the prosecutors investigating Lee Jae-myung as party leader,' saying, "Publicly inciting people to target and harass public officials who are lawfully performing their duties undermines the rule of law."
On the morning of the 26th, as he arrived at the Government Complex Gwacheon, Minister Han responded to reporters' questions about the controversy with these remarks. He added, "That does not mean the existing criminal charges disappear," emphasizing, "I think it would be appropriate to explain the details within the judicial system just like any other citizen."
Regarding the Democratic Party's claim that "dark history must be recorded" when disclosing the names of the prosecutors, he retorted, "Did they really say that?" and responded, "Using the power of the majority party to undermine the rule of law like this will be recorded in history."
Minister Han also addressed the criticism that the investigation of Representative Lee is not consistent with the investigation of the president's family, stating, "I understand that various agencies have thoroughly investigated this since the previous administration, and decisions will be made fairly according to the law," but added, "They are completely unrelated cases."
Earlier, when news broke that the prosecution had notified Representative Lee of a summons for questioning, the Democratic Party created materials containing the real names, affiliations, and photos of the prosecutors investigating cases related to Representative Lee and distributed them to party members and supporters. Regarding this, Democratic Party spokesperson Kim Eui-gyeom issued a statement the day before, saying, "The dark history of this investigation and those prosecutors must be recorded. The entire nation must clearly know who is leading the investigation aimed at destroying the opposition party and eliminating political rivals."
