Gyeonggi-do to Train 660 Semiconductor Workers by 2025... Operating 'Shared University' Linking Universities and Semiconductor Companies
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will operate a shared university starting next year that connects semiconductor-related universities and companies within the province to cultivate practical technical personnel in order to resolve the semiconductor industry labor shortage.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 25th, the shortage of personnel in the semiconductor field within the province is about 1,200 people annually. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies are caught in a vicious cycle where chronic vacancies and a lack of replacement personnel repeatedly weaken expertise and proficiency.
To solve this problem, since April, the province has been in consultation with the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Research Institute, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, universities and companies within the province, and will fully launch a semiconductor industry professional personnel training project starting next year.
First, in January next year, the province will establish the "Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Human Resources Development Center" (tentative name) to utilize the public education infrastructure, conduct practical technical personnel training, and provide specialized and vocational high school teacher capacity-building training.
The province plans to train more than 660 practical semiconductor technical personnel over three years until the end of 2025.
Additionally, to strengthen the capacity of vocational high school teachers, a teacher training course will be operated, and mentors and mentees will be assigned between semiconductor experts and teachers to consult on the curriculum.
Furthermore, practical training will be conducted using public education infrastructure such as educational semiconductor process equipment and measurement equipment, and special lectures by companies will also be held.
The province expects this project to serve as an opportunity for Gyeonggi Province to leap forward in securing a super-gap in the semiconductor industry while resolving the semiconductor industry labor shortage.
