Grandson of Namyang Dairy Founder Admits to Drug Use and Distribution in Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The grandson of the late Hong Doo-young, honorary chairman and founder of Namyang Dairy Products, admitted in court to repeatedly using drugs and supplying them to others.
At the first trial held on the 23rd for violation of the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana) presided over by the 27th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Ok-gon), Hong's lawyer stated, "He admits all the charges." Hong himself also admitted the charges directly.
Earlier, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Violent Crime Division (Chief Prosecutor Shin Jun-ho) indicted Hong, the son of the late honorary chairman's second son, on charges of possession and habitual use of marijuana (violation of the Narcotics Control Act). Hong is accused not only of using marijuana but also of sharing his marijuana with close acquaintances and international students and smoking it together.

During the trial, the prosecution revealed that additional offenses by Hong had been confirmed and announced plans to file additional charges within this month. The court plans to hold a hearing on February 1 next year to review the additional charges and then conclude the trial.
