Changwon Special City Wraps Up Resident Participatory Budgeting Activities This Year

The performance sharing meeting was organized as a closing event for the resident participatory budgeting activities carried out throughout the year, with about 90 participants including resident participatory budget committee members.
Awards were presented to 8 outstanding project proposers and plaques of appreciation were given to 11 meritorious public officials. There was also a time to share excellent cases such as the 'Wise Separate Waste Disposal Shadow Lighting Installation Project.'
In addition, the city achieved a great success by being selected as excellent in the comprehensive award category in the '2022 Resident Participatory Budget Excellent Local Government Selection Evaluation' conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a special grant of 70 million KRW. The city celebrated the achievement with the resident participatory budget committee members who worked together and sought future development plans.
This year, the city reflected 146 citizen-proposed projects in the budget and promoted them throughout the city. Based on on-site inspections by the monitoring team, self-evaluations by project departments, and online citizen voting results, 8 outstanding projects were finally selected.
To hear the voices of youth, the future generation leaders, the city held a Youth Budget School and incorporated the proposed projects discovered through group policy discussions into next year’s budget. The city also actively worked to strengthen citizen participation capabilities by conducting customized visiting consultations to support agenda discovery at eup, myeon, and dong regional meetings and providing telephone consultations for proposers.

Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “We will further strive to operate the resident participatory budgeting system, which begins with citizens’ proposals, more substantively so that citizen participation can lead the change and innovation of Changwon.” He added, “We will strengthen the institutional foundation to guarantee practical citizen participation and promote the vitality of Changwon Special City.”
