Gwangju Buk-gu 'Gwangju's Only' Youth Policy Evaluation Wins Prime Minister's Award
Notable Achievements in Youth Rights Promotion and Support Projects for Fostering Self-Directed Talent
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 21st that it was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2022 Youth Policy Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, receiving the Prime Minister’s Award as the only district in Gwangju.
This evaluation is conducted annually by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to strengthen local governments' youth policy capabilities and discover and spread best practices. It assessed 12 indicators across three areas: formation, execution, and outcomes of youth policies.
Accordingly, Buk-gu received consistently high scores across all evaluation items, including ▲promotion of youth participation and rights ▲expansion of youth-led activity areas ▲customized support to expand the youth social safety net.
In particular, programs such as scholarships for out-of-school youth preparing for college entrance and achievement reward projects supporting academic return and social entry to strengthen youth’s self-directed achievement motivation were evaluated as innovative.
Additionally, various programs related to the 4th industrial revolution, such as the Dream Tree Family Science Golden Bell and Visiting Neighborhood Science Classes, attracted youth interest and participation, earning positive evaluations.
Director Moon said, “Systematic support is necessary for youth to grow into future talents,” and added, “We will continue to expand policy support by establishing institutional foundations for youth support and strengthening cooperation with related organizations.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu was selected as an executing agency for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s ‘2022 Local Government Youth Safety Net Team and High-Risk Youth Customized Program Project,’ strengthening integrated support services for high-risk youth through ▲discovery and linkage of at-risk youth ▲youth surveys ▲establishment of emergency response systems.
